Painting is an enjoyable exercise and I am presently
working on new works from the Coromandel of New Zealand. I am
very excited about a new idea in painting wedding vista paintings
in impressionism. This concept will be marketed to our many wedding
photography clients. Can't wait to show you some samples in the
New Zealand spring, so come back then. Happy painting and appreciating.

Painting Blog 5th December 2007
Hello folks.More paintings are rolling out of ideas
with impressions of the Clay Cliffs of Omarama in the South Island
of New Zealand. A more realistic painting of autumn colours of
Arrowtown in central Otago. Also some coastal scenes with Ohiwa
Harbour and the Coromandel featured with smaller impressions.
I am now trying to loosen up my approach to painting with a more
free impressionism approach to my work. Not easy to achieve but
I guess with the coming years of practice I hope to be better
at it. I am not encouraging galleries to sell my work at present
as I am storing them for when we build our dream house and gallery
one day. Until then most of my paintings remain wrapped up in
bubble rap racked between the wall and work bench in the garage.
One day they will be open to everyone to see again in a comfortable
environment. Till then I will continue to buy lotto tickets and
maybe convince the bank to fund our studio. An artists life is
never an easy $ one but I am really enjoying my work as always.
I feel it is very important to keep notes and archive the works
for the generations to come so that maybe, one day, someone will
bother researching my work and they will prove to be a fine investment.
Enjoy these new paintings...AW

Painting Blog entry 31st May 2007
Wow! I am back into my painting with vengeance
and really enjoying it. Currently working on large paintings of
Whakatane, Arrowtown and the Clay Cliffs of Omarama in the SI.
A number of smaller paintings featuring coastal NZ are also on
the make. I will show you as soon as they are done which won't
be long now. I am keen to speak to groups and clubs about my work.
So long as my expenses are covered, I would be happy to talk to
your group and it does not need to be a painting group. Better
get to it.
Blog entry 21st May 2007
It has not been a very busy year for my paintings
and many works remain unfinished. I have been involved in two
profile events in Tauranga and Taupo. One being the 'Our Land'
exhibition for New Zealand Landscape painting artists. I finished
a rather large piece with a very heavy Rimu frame in which I am
pleased at the overall result. The opening was enjoyable too in
Taupo.
Sales of paintings have been good with a few keen buyers seeing
my work online. One buyer works for the Japanese embassy so I
am please they will be going to Japan. The 4 Art Sake gallery,
run by my friend, Jo Lenne of Ohope, seems to be making some good
sales of my smaller works.
I figure if I write it in my blog it will just have to happen,
so I am going to finnish at least 4 works before the end of June
07 and my trip the the US.

Wow, it has been a busy wedding season with lots
of weddings. All going very well and plenty of happy customers.
Have a look at some of our latest client
galleries on our Whyte Weddings Website. Just when I thought
that all the work I have put into my stock library website is
not paying off financially I have made some great sales for Christmas
cards featuring New Zealand landscapes. We are off in our make
do camper van for a month to photograph the South Island in the
fall. Yay! can't wait to show you the collections of photos that
will result. We also have a family wedding to attend in Invercargal.
The southern most city in the world.
I have been updating my photography website to
feature Adobe products in the new affiliate program so if you
are thinking of buying Lightroom, Photoshop or indeed any of the
Adobe products then click through the links on my website. I will
get some remuneration and it will help me continue writing my
travel articles and updating my tutorials. Talking about tutorials
I am in the process of writing one on wedding photography. There
will be small charge through clickbank to cover my time and expertise
but do please come back and see the previews in a few months (hopefully!!)
I have recently upgraded my lead camera to the
Nikon D300 which is proving nice to use with the wide angle to
normal 17-55 f2.8 lens. The D200 is now the second camera with
the f2.8 70-200VR lens on it. Love my D200, awesome piece of kit.
I still use the 18-200 superzoom for travel photography because
of it's amazing versatility. Its not as sharp as the larger more
expensive f2.8 lenses. Oh! and I bought a new A3 Epson printer.
Wow! I cant believe the quality of the prints that come out of
this thing when used with the Epson premium semigloss paper. I
have also upgraded some work process software to Adobe Lightroom.
Skeptical at first because of the cost but now absolutely sold
on it. Love it and those people at Adobe need to be congratulated
on a wonderful product that saves me hours of my precious time.
If you are thinking about buying it then don't wait.. Just do
it, learn it and use it. Use this link...

Something new in my galleries? have a look at the
Tauranga
airshow gallery featuring some amazing warbirds. Shot with
a D300 and the f2.8 70-200VR lens. I have also done an interesting
commercial shoot at the Reef
Apartments in Mount Maunganui. Love the evening pool shot.
New travel articles include continuations of my California trip
to Yosemite
Park and San
Francisco.
Come back soon for my South Island road trip articles and
lots of new photos. Till then stay safe.

I had a lot of fun shooting this series of photos
of the Lunar Eclipse last night. The sky was crisp and clear and
I had the tripod set up with a Nikon 70-200VR lens. The photos
were later cropped in some what to get a big picture. I think
they look pretty sharp. See... Lunar
Eclipse
I sent the link to my favourite radio stations and they have
been plugging them all day and linking to them from the station
sites. Always the promoter. Good fun eh!

Finally I have most of my images from my California

Photography Blog entry 25th July 2007
An amazing trip to the States! I did a workshop
at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara and then
traveled up the Valley to Yosemite and San Francisco. I am still
sorting out all the photos so come back in a few weeks and see.
I am flat out catching up on assignments such as the Bay of Plenty
Polytechnic environmental portrait photos for the 2007 brochures.
I am doing a presentation to my NZIPP chapter in July about the
Brooks experience and my new ebook on wedding photography is now
under the pen too.
Photography Blog entry 31st May 2007
I am getting really excited about my trip the United
States in June and have been organising my trip. I leave on the
21st of June and I will be spending two days in LA. I have some
idea on what to expect and have booked a motel in Carsons Long
Beach. Don't ask me what that neighborhood is like?I have since
discovered it may be a long way from universal studios which I
am keen to visit on the Friday, so I hope the public transport
system is easy to use. I head up to Santa Barbara for a week for
the duration of the Brooks
in a Week Photography course, being the NZIPP scholarship
I won. Marshall Dennen fom Brooks has told me he can offer a great
deal if any other Kiwi's want to join in too.
From the 28th of June I will head up to San Fran and visit the
Yosemite Park. I also want to see the giant redwood trees which
I believe are north of SF. At this stage I have no idea where
I am going to stay in SF and I don't know anyone there. I would
be keen to meet up a fellow photographer or painter, so if you
know of a nice person? Contact
me. I intend publishing travel articles from my trip on my website,
with photos of course, when I return. Come back soon!
Blog entry 21st May 2007
You can tell my busy wedding photography season
is slowing down, as we head into the winter off season. I spent
most of my morning writing to the minister of justice on how to
deal with the boy racer problem in New Zealand. I should have
been working on paintings. Over the last week I have been tweaking
my tutorials and my adsense. I am pleased at the helpful revenue
I am getting from my adsense clicks. This huge website and all
the years I have put into it is paying interest on an ongoing
basis. I am excited. I am pleased I learnt some basic HTML all
those years ago and kept up my interest in webmastering. Thank
you dreamweaver.
My involvement with NZIPP seems to be growing and after winning
the American Brooks Institute scholarship I am off to Santa Barbara
for the Brooks in a week workshop. I leave at the end of June
07. I will have heaps of photos and lots of blog to share with
you when I get back. New photos in my stock gallery include images
from Auckland, after a nice weekend staying at dads
place in the city. My dad lives in a central city appartment near
the top floor, so I added nicely to my Auckland
gallery. Some photos of the museum at sunset and some interesting
buildings near Albert Park.
New images too from Thames
Coromandel. Cathy and I were there to shoot Sarah
and Jeremy's wedding and after staying over we took advantage
of a morning walk at sunrise. Most of the old cottages there have
been renovated, so it is now such a nostalgic and pretty place.
If you have not been to Thames recently then I recommend it.
The wedding season has seen lots of weddings in Taupo, which seems
to be a growing market for us, we enjoy it there.
